Hoberman Space Discovery Dome
As the wonders and mysteries of the universe literally unfold before their eyes inside this unusual expandable dome, children's fascination with space turns into serious learning and perhaps even a lifelong love of science. The dome combines a detailed chart of the night sky on its inside surface with an exterior filled with information on everything from the orbit of Halley's comet to the makeup of Saturn's rings. Using the same unfolding technology he used in his design for the arch at the medals plaza of the 2002 Salt Lake City winter games, designer Chuck Hoberman has created a dome that gives an earth's eye view of our solar system when fully contracted. The dome then expands_increasing its volume 30-fold_to reveal a larger map of the universe, which replicates what the child sees when looking up at the sky after dark. Closed dimensions 11" Diam.
